Mahalo nui loa to all those who have helped Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project in the past for your continued support of seabird research in Maui Nui!
Community volunteers of all ages and skill levels have contributed their time and passion to Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project (MNSRP). If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email us with your background and interests. At this time, we do not lead regularly scheduled volunteer events; however, we would love to include you in our contact list.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Habitat Restoration: Volunteers can help give seabirds a fighting chance by encouraging the natural regeneration of native plant species within seabird breeding habitats. Habitat work days may involve intensive weed and tree removal and out-planting of native plants, or it can simply be spending some time clearing burrow entrances of invasive weeds and rubbish.

Seabird Colony Guardians: Spread information and help protect seabird nesting colonies. Volunteers learn all about seabirds and are trained to participate in MNSRP outreach activities in Kihei and one of Maui’s largest colonies of ʻuaʻu kani (wedge-tailed shearwater).

Coastal Seabird Monitoring: Volunteers are occasionally needed to assist bi-annual ʻuaʻu kani banding efforts and seasonal reproductive success monitoring.
