Mahalo nui loa to all those who have helped Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project in the past for your continued support of seabird research in Maui Nui!
Community volunteers of all ages and skill levels have contributed their time and passion to Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project (MNSRP). If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email us with your background and interests. At this time, we do not lead regularly scheduled volunteer events; however, we would love to include you in our contact list.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Citizen Science: Volunteers who want to make a regular time commitment can learn how to collect data to assist with seabird colony monitoring.
Seabird Colony Guardians: Spread information and help protect seabird nesting colonies. Volunteers learn all about seabirds and are trained to participate in MNSRP outreach activities in Kihei and one of Maui’s largest colonies of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters.
Kahikinui Forest Reserve: Volunteers are needed for multiple day field operations in Kahikinui, a remote, beautiful, and demanding alpine site on the leeward side of Haleakala. Terrain and field work is extremely physically challenging but also rewarding.
Seabird Banding: Volunteers are occasionally needed to record data during banding MNSRP’s bi-annual banding efforts.
